Question 1 (b) Binu earns ₹20,000 per month. She spends ₹5,000 on rent, ₹5,000 on food, and ₹2,000 on other expenses every month. What is the amount Binu will save by the end of a year? Note: Notice that we need to find money saved in one year Amount Binu earns in 1 month = Rs 20,000 Amount Binu spends on rent in 1 month = Rs 5,000 Amount Binu spends on food in 1 month = Rs 5,000 Amount Binu spends on other expenses in 1 month = Rs 2,000 Now, Amount saved by end of year = Amount saved in month × 12 months = [Amount earned – (Amount spent on rent + food + other expenses)] × 12 = [20,000 – (5,000 + 5,000 + 2,000)] × 12 = [20,000 – 12,000] × 12 = 8,000 × 12 = Rs 1,08,000 ∴ Amount Binu will save by the end of a year is Rs 1,08,000
