Arithmetic Expressions Arithmetic expressions are like 13 + 2 20 – 4 12 × 5 18 ÷ 3 Think of them like short math phrases or little "to-do lists" for numbers. Each one tells you: "Do this!" 13 + 2 says: "Add these!" 20 − 4 says: "Subtract here!" And when you DO it, what happens? You get a single number, right? That answer is called its value. So, for 13 + 2, the value is 15, and we write 13 + 2 = 5. Similarly, 20 – 4 = 16
