“Distribution of population in India is uneven.“ Prove this statement with examples.

Points to be remembered:

Answer to be written in the exam:

  1. Physical factors: The scant population is primarily c aused by harsh, mountainous terrain, as in Sikkim, or a lack of transportation, like in Arunachal Pradesh.

  2. Extreme weather : Population density is lower in places with harsh climates, such as Rajasthan and Ladakh, which are covered in snow.

  3. Plain terrain : States with dense populations include those with rich, fertile soil, abundant rainfall, and moderate climates like Kerala and Uttar Pradesh.

  4. Economical factors: Areas with plenty of opportunities for establishing businesses and industries tend to become heavily populated. These places can grow extremely congested with effective trade, transportation, and communication.

  5. Political factors: Over time, states that provide security, peace, and stability also grow highly dense.
