  • Complex system of i nteractions between organisms and physical environment in a particular area

  • Organisms interact with each other and are interdependent

  • Also interact with abiotic environment

  • Size of ecosystem varies greatly

  • Can be large or small

  • Example: pond ecosystem
    • Contains fish, frogs, algae, water lilies, etc.
    • Live in and around the pond
    • Interact with each other and with water, soil, air, etc.
