Yes, I think the term “ unity in diversity ” is an appropriate term to describe India because 

  • India is a country of many languages, religions, cultures, regions and communities , but it is also a country that has a common history, a shared national identity and a collective sense of pride.

  • Nehru is trying to say that Indian unity is not based on uniformity or similarity, but on respect and acceptance of diversity .

  • By this sentence, Nehru is trying to say that Indian unity is not based on any rigid or fixed criteria or factors that make all Indians alike or similar. Rather, Indian unity is based on an inner feeling or essence that expresses itself in many different ways through the diversity of languages, religions,
