Meridians or Longitude
- The globe has two sets of circles: parallels and meridians
- Parallels run from east to west and are parallel to the equator
- Meridians run from north to south and pass through the poles
- Half of a meridian between the poles is called a semicircle
- The parallels and meridians intersect at right angles ( 90° )
- The network of parallels and meridians on a globe is called the earth’s grid or the geographic grid
- The parallels and meridians can be used to define the location and direction of any place on the globe or on the map
