Why do meristematic tissues lack vacuoles?

  • Meristematic cells are found at the growing regions and they divide frequently
  • Inorder to divide, they need dense cytoplasm and thin cell wall
  • Vacuoles contain cell sap that gives turgidity and rigidity to cells
  • This characteristic of vacuoles is a hindrance in cell division
  • Hence they lack vacuoles
