How is the concentration of hydroxide ions (OH ) affected when excess base is dissolved in a solution of sodium hydroxide?

Answer:

Hydroxide ions (OH ) are formed by dissociation of the base. As the amount of NaOH increases, dissociation of ions increase and more hydroxide ions (OH ) are produced.

Hence, the concentration of hydroxide ions (OH ) increases and the basicity of a solution increases as well.
