Elaborate on the inheritance of DNA and traits during Sexual and Asexual reproduction.

Answer:

In case of asexual reproduction

  • The DNA is copied directly from the parent.
  • Since the DNA copied is almost identical (with variations present only due to errors), the variations are very subtle , and observed only over a large amount of time (over several generations).

In case of sexual reproduction

  • The DNA of the offspring is not the copy from any one parent , but a mix of genetic information from both parents.
  • Hence the offspring receives characteristics from both parents , and the variation from either parent is clearly visible .
