Explain the formation of ammonia molecules.

Answer

Ammonia i.e. NH 3 is made up of one nitrogen molecule and three hydrogen molecules.

  • Electronic configuration of nitrogen (7) -  2,5.
  • Electronic configuration of hydrogen(1) - 1

Nitrogen needs three more electrons to complete its octet. So, the 3 hydrogen atoms share 1 electrons each with the nitrogen by forming covalent bonds and thus NH 3  is formed.
