Why is Petroleum called Black Gold?

Just like gold, petroleum is also very useful and valuable product

It is used to manufacture a number of products like petrol,diesel,kerosene etc

Many products are also obtained from further processing of petroleum called Petrochemicals (Example Polythene,Plastic Bags,Detergents)

So it is called Black Gold because it has a number of commercial importance
