Ex 11.1, 4 A machine in a soft drink factory fills 840 bottles in six hours. How many bottles will it fill in five hours?Given, 840 bottles are filled in 6 hours. Let x bottles be filled in 5 hours. Thus, our table looks like As number of bottles increases, the time taken to fill the bottles also increases. ∴ Number of bottles and time are in direct proportion. 𝟖𝟒𝟎/𝟔 = 𝒙/𝟓 840/6 × 5 = 𝑥 140 × 5 = 𝑥 700 = 𝑥 𝑥 = 700 ∴ 700 bottles are filled in 5 hours
