           Square of –3 = (–3) 2

         = –3 × –3

         = 3 × 3

         = 9

 

So, square of a number is always positive

 

And, we saw that 3 2 = 9

So, (–3) 2 = 3 2

 

Therefore, when we square a negative number,

the answer is same as that when we square a positive number
