Writing - because:
- It enabled societies to record economic transactions and social activities .
- Over time it led to the composition of literary and creative texts .
- It let knowledge and ideas travel across distance and across time, instead of dying with a person.
- It is why we can read Mesopotamian myths and Egyptian medicine today. It is also why the Harappans stay silent.
Other defensible choices: farming , the wheeled cart , bronze and iron metallurgy , or standard weights and measures .
