Title: The Beat Within
Characters: Anuradha, Father, Mother, Rohan
Scene: Dining room after dinner.
Anuradha:
(aside) I have practised for years, yet the hardest rhythm is the one inside my own heart.
Father:
Anuradha, your music teacher called. Is there something you need to tell me?
Anuradha:
Ahem... yes, Papa. I have been invited to perform tabla at the Youth Music Festival.
Father:
Tabla? Again? You have a voice. Why hide behind an instrument?
Mother:
(calmly) She is not hiding. She is speaking through rhythm.
Rohan:
Papa, come to one rehearsal. If you still feel the same, she will listen.
Father:
(after a pause) One rehearsal. But only one.
Anuradha:
Thank you, Papa. I promise you will hear my heart in every beat.
