A student said, “The Earth moves around the Sun”. In this context, discuss whether an object kept on the Earth can be considered to be at rest.

Rest and motion are always relative to a chosen reference point . With respect to the Earth’s surface , the object’s position does not change, so it is at rest . With respect to the Sun , the Earth (and the object on it) keeps moving, so it is in motion . So it can be called at rest or in motion depending on the reference point chosen.
