Question 8 The figure shows the diagram for a window with a grill. What is the gap between two rods in the grill?Let Gap between two rods = x cm Now, there are 2 borders in top and bottom, 3 cm each 5 grills in between, 2 cm each 6 gaps, x cm each And, Total height is 34 cm So, we can write Total height = Number of Border × Height of borders + Number of Grills × Height of Grills + Number of Gaps × Height of Gaps = 2 × 3 + 5 × 2 + 6 × x = 6 + 10 + 6x = 16 + 6x Since total height is 34 cm Our equation becomes 34 = 16 + 6x Putting 14 left side, it becomes subtraction 34 – 16 = 6x 18 = 6x Putting 6x on left side, as variables are always on left 6x = 18 Putting 6 on left side, so it becomes division x = 18/6 x = 3 Thus, gap between two rods is 3 cm
