Unknown WeightsWe have a weighing scale that behaves as follows. The numbers represent same units of weight: We notice that When the weights on both sides is the same, the weighing scale is balanced And, total of both weights is displayed on top So, if it’s balanced, Left side = Right side = (𝑾𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐𝒑)/𝟐 Now, let’s do some questions Find unknown weight – Fig 7.1 Since scale is balanced Left weight = Right Weight = 𝟏𝟔/𝟐 = 8 Thus, Pink flower = 8 Also, 2 × Green leaf + Black rose = 8 Putting Green leaf = 3 2 × 3 + Black rose = 8 6 + Black rose = 8 Black rose = 8 – 6 Black rose = 2 Find unknown weight – Fig 7.2 Since scale is balanced Left weight = Right Weight = 𝟐𝟒/𝟐 = 12 Thus, 2 × Starfish + Blue fish = 12 Putting Starfish = 2 2 × 2 + Blue fish = 12 4 + Blue fish = 12 Blue fish = 12 – 4 Blue fish = 8 And, Blue fish + Grey fish = 12 8 + Grey Fish = 12 Grey fish = 12 –8 Grey fish = 4 8 + Grey Fish = 12 Grey fish = 12 –8 Grey fish = 4 Find unknown weight – Fig 7.3 Since scale is balanced Left weight = Right Weight = 𝟖/𝟐 = 4 Thus, Book = 4 And, 2 × Pencil box = 4 Pencil box = 4/2 Pencil box = 2
