Question 7 The sum of two numbers is 76. One number is three times the other number. What are the numbers?Let Smaller number = x Given that One number is three times the other number. So, we can write Larger number = 3 × Smaller number Larger Number = 3x Also, given that Sum of two numbers is 76 So, we can write Smaller number + Larger number = 76 Putting values x + 3x = 76 4x = 76 Putting 4 on right side, so it becomes division x = 76/4 x = 19 Thus, Smaller number = x = 19 Larger number = 3x = 3 × 19 = 57 So, the two numbers are 19 and 57 So, we can write Smaller number + Larger number = 76 Putting values x + 3x = 76 4x = 76 Putting 4 on right side, so it becomes division x = 76/4 x = 19 Thus, Smaller number = x = 19 Larger number = 3x = 3 × 19 = 57 So, the two numbers are 19 and 57
