Question 3 The following are some equations along with the steps used to solve them to find the value of the letter−number. Go through each solution and decide whether the steps are correct. If there is a mistake, describe the mistake, correct it and solve the equation. Is there a mistake? Yes What went wrong? In the first step, the student tried to separate the 2 from the v before dealing with the -4. They subtracted 2 from the other side, which isn't allowed. Correct solution Now, 2v – 4 = 6 Taking –4 on right side, it becomes +4 2v = 6 + 4 2v = 10 Taking 2 on right side, it becomes division v = 10/2 v = 5
