Question 1 – Page 148 Use Identity 1C to calculate 98 × 102, and 45 × 55. For 98 × 102 Now, 98 × 102 = (100 – 2) × (100 + 2) Using Identity: (a + b) × (a – b) = a2 – b2 = 1002 – 22 = 10,000 – 4 = 9,996 For 45 × 55 Now, 45 × 55 = (50 – 5) × (50 + 5) Using Identity: (a + b) × (a – b) = a2 – b2 = 502 – 52 = 2,500 – 25 = 2,475
