Question 11 Solve this cryptarithm: Here, Adding two 2-digit numbers gives 3 digit number Since biggest number can be 99 + 99 = 198 This means Hundreds digit, P, will always be 1 ∴ T = 1 Now, our equation becomes U1 + 1A = 1A1 For units digit 1 + A = 1 A = 1 – 1 A = 0 So, our equation is now U1 + 10 = 101 U1 = 101 – 10 U1 = 91 Thus, U = 9 Therefore, U = 9, T = 1, A = 0
