Question 6 Earlier, people used to walk long distances as they had no other means of transport. Suppose you walk at your normal pace. Approximately, how long would it take you to go from: a. Your current location to one of your favourite places nearby. b. Your current location to any neighbouring state’s capital city. c. The southernmost point in India to the northernmost point in India. The method for all parts is to estimate the distance and divide it by an average walking speed (about 4 km/h). a. To a favourite place nearby: Assuming "nearby" is about 2 km, it would take approximately 30 minutes. b. To a neighbouring state's capital city: My location is New Delhi. A neighboring capital is Chandigarh (approx. 250 km). This would take about 60-70 hours of pure walking, which would mean 8-10 days of walking for 8 hours a day. c. Southernmost to northernmost point in India: This distance is over 3,000 km. This would take approximately 800 hours of walking, which is well over 3 months of walking every day.
