Question 2 How has mathematics helped propel humanity forward? (You might think of examples involvling: carrying out scientific experiments; running our economy and democracy; building bridges, houses or other complex structures; making TVs, mobile phones, computers, bicycles, trains, cars, planes, calendars, clocks, etc.) Let’s discuss each of them - one by ne 1. Scientific Discoveries Scientists use math in experiments, formulas, and predictions. Without math, we wouldn't know: Why the apple falls from a tree (gravity), How to send satellites to space etc. 2. Running Countries & Democracies Governments use math to: Count votes in elections, Measure the population (census), Plan budgets and taxes. 3. Building Bridges, Roads & Skyscrapers Engineers use: Geometry to design safe bridges, Measurement to plan how long a road should be, Calculations to make sure buildings don’t fall down. 4. Calendars and Clocks How do we know: When it’s a leap year? How long a day is?
