Surekha is an officer in-charge of ensuring free and fair elections in an assembly constituency in a state. Describe what should she focus on for each of the following stages of election:

a. Election campaign

b. Polling day

c. Counting day

 

Answer:

(a) Election Campaign:

    1. Check law and order
    2. Keep a check on muscle and money power
    3. Keep a check on the expenditure limit of a candidate
    4. To ensure no promotion on the grounds of religion, caste or sex

(b) Polling Day:

    1. Verify the voter list.
    2. Verify the voter's ID.
    3. Avoid booth capture
    4. Achieve fair and free elections

(c) Counting Day

    1. Keep a fair counting practice
    2. Prevent the rigging of votes
