Answer to be written in the exam:

  1.  The Public Distribution System ensures food security in India through government-regulated ration shops among the poorer sections of the society. These ration shops, known as ‘Fair Price Shops’, are present in most localities, villages, towns, and cities.

  2. They keep stocks of food grains,  sugar, and kerosene oil for cooking purposes. These items are sold to the public at a price lower than the market price.

  3. Any family with a ration card can buy a stipulated amount of these items like thirty-five kg of grains, five liters of kerosene, five kg of sugar, etc. every month from the nearby ration shops.
