Chapter 1 Class 6 Geography - The Earth and the Solar System

Why do we always see the same face of the moon?

Answer

Answer by Student

  • We always see the same face of the moon because the moon spins and goes around the earth at the same speed , which is about 27 days.
  • This means that the moon always shows the same side to the earth, while the other side is hidden from us. This is called tidal locking .
  • The moon is tidally locked to the earth because of the pull of the earth, which makes bumps on the moon. These bumps make the moon spin slower or faster until it matches its speed around the earth.
