  1. It was difficult to make a constitution for such a diverse and large country as India .
  2. The country was born through the partition , based on religious differences .
  3. For the people of India and Pakistan , it was a traumatic experience . At least 10 lakh people died on both sides of the border .
  4. Another problem was, the Britishers had left it to the rulers of the princely state to decide whether they wanted to merge with India or with Pakistan or remain independent .
  5. The merger of the princely state was a difficult and uncertain task .
  6. When the constitution was written , the future of the country did not look as secure as it does today. 
  7. The makers of the constitution had anxiety about the present and the future of the country .
