1️⃣Think of the last time you had to take an important decision . It could lend itself any degree of importance- anything from choosing what to order, or deciding to pick a certain course. Think about how you made the said decision.
Very often in our lives we make decisions that entail consequences- the nature of a consequence acts as a compass for good decision making.
2️⃣Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action.
It does not only involve decision-making, but also the a) possession and retention of information b) the acquisition of a set of skills to achieve results, c)the necessary ‘framework’ to execute and, d)acceptance of results.
3️⃣Say you were to finish a task and there are a number of steps involved - say a teacher, for example- with 70 students in class who can turn didactic classes into very engaging ones, it is the idea of the teacher to identify what can help students pay attention, evaluate her options, analyze her plans and then execute her ideas in a way that the syllabus finishes before the deadline. Even in the case of a student who if more often plagued with deadlines and applications, or a traffic police who must dissolve traffic and ensure he does so safely, an airhostess who may deal with an unexpected situation on flight- all these are daily examples where such thinking supersedes all others.
4️⃣Critical thinkers are resigned to eschew thought processes that are visceral, as logic and rationale supersedes the emotion. Critical thinking is a process designed with logic as an essential buttress . It calls for a persistent effort to examine any belief or supposed form of knowledge in the light of the evidence that supports it and the further conclusion to which it tends. A critical thinker is also a question-er, gatherer of relevant information, and is an open-minded individual. Not all decisions can yield the results we expect, but the process equips us with the pragmatism to go ahead in life.
5️⃣Human beings may be the most evolved species on the planet- we have survived, and we have learnt to thrive. The way we think is very central to how we evolved- it is more important the way we think than what we think. It is one of the primal differences between other animals that merely exist to survive and procreate.
