Which do you think is a more basic characteristic for classifying organisms?

  1. the place where they live.
  2. the kind of cells they are made of. Why?

Answer:

Characteristic is the different property or feature which is used to identify particular species.

Now, let’s compare both options

  1. the place where they live - In a forest, there are various organisms like microorganisms, insects, animals, birds etc. All these are different organisms but we cannot classify them on the basis of where they live.
  2. the kind of cells they are made of - We can classify organisms on the basis of kind of cells. Example - Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes.
