  • The hack driver was a conversationalist and was cheerful and friendly. The narrator, on being befriended by him, trusts him on whatever he says and does.
  • When he realizes that the narrator has not met, convinces the lawyer that he knows where Lutkins is.
  • He asks the narrator to stay behind while he enquired about Lutkins.
  • He befools the narrator in the disguise of helping him and mints money off of his gullibility.
