As per me Sir, It has to be y-7

cuz, It says 7 years ago. so we have to take the value as 7...

but, if they would have given 5 years ago then you can take y-5!!

We assumed

Current age of Aftab's daughter = y

So, her age 5 years ago will be

y - 5
