Subordinating Conjunctions are used to combine a Dependent Clause with Independent Clause
Examples
When he was young,he was very naughty
Here,
'He was very naughty' is an independent sentence
but
' he was young' is a phrase dependent on it(it has no meaning on its own)
Both are linked by 'When' which is a Subordinating Conjunction

After he became old,he became sober
Here,
'He became sover' is an independent sentence
but
' he became old' is a phrase dependent on it
Both are linked by 'After' which is a Subordinating Conjunction
