Let’s take an example

Runs scored by Virat Kohli are 120, 24, 48, 64, 29, 64, 71, 3, 64, 29

Find Mode

First, we arrange the numbers in ascending order

3, 24, 29, 29, 48, 64, 64, 64, 71, 120

Since 64 occurs 3 times.

Mode = 64

Marks scored by Satvik in his test are 48, 91, 83, 83, 95.  

Find mode

First, we arrange the numbers in ascending order

48, 83, 83, 91, 95

Since 83 occurs 2 times.

Mode = 83

Mode of large numbers

We know that

  Mode is maximum occurring observation

Let’s take an example where there are a lot of numbers.

Find the mode of the following data:
12, 14, 12, 16, 15, 13, 14, 18, 19, 12, 14, 15, 16, 15, 16, 16, 15, 17, 13, 16, 16, 15, 15, 13, 15, 17, 15, 14, 15, 13, 15, 14

Here, there are a lot of numbers, & writing it in ascending order can be lead to mistakes.

So, we make a frequency distribution table (link)

Marks are

12, 14, 12, 16, 15, 13, 14, 18, 19, 12, 14, 15, 16, 15, 16, 16, 15, 17, 13, 16, 16, 15, 15, 13, 15, 17, 15, 14, 15, 13, 15, 14

Since 15 occurs 10 times

Mode = 15
