Ex 2.2, 3 Multiply the following fractions: (i) 2/5 x 5 1/4 2/5 × 5 1/4 = 𝟐/𝟓 × (𝟓+𝟏/𝟒) = 2/5 × ((5 × 4 + 1 )/4) = 2/5 × ((20 + 1)/4) = 2/5 × 21/4 = (2 × 21)/(5 × 4) = 21/(5 × 2) = 21/10 Since Numerator > Denominator We will convert it into mixed fraction = 2 𝟏/𝟏𝟎
