  • Highest power of x is 1

 

Is 2x + 3y + 4z = 5 a linear equation?

Yes

The equation has

  • An = sign
  • Highest power of x, y, z is 1

 

Is 3y + 100 = 0 a linear equation?

Yes

The equation has

  • An = sign
  • Highest power of y is 1

 

Is 3y 2 + 10y = 0 a linear equation?

No

Since the highest power of y is 2, it is not a linear equation
