VAT Challan

It is a form to pay tax to State Government

It is normally paid in banks


VAT Return

Details of tax paid are given in VAT return in prescribed  format

It is deposited with local VAT Department


Note:- First we pay challan and then details of challans are given in return.

Hence, first challan is deposited and later return is filed


Due date of Challan and Return

It depends upon state to state.

In some states, it is done monthly while in others, it is done quarterly and annually

In some states, there are more than one types of returns also


Revision of Return

In case of some mistake in the return, it can be rectified by filing revised return

State VAT Act prescribes the period during which such return can be revised
