Temperature decreases with altitude only in the troposphere and mesosphere.

The atmosphere has five layers, in order of increasing height: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and exosphere.
  • Label the troposphere nearest the ground, up to 12 km.
  • Above it, label the stratosphere , up to 50 km, with the ozone layer.
  • Next comes the mesosphere , up to 80 km.
  • Then the thermosphere , from 80 to 700 km.
  • Finally, the exosphere at the very top, fading into space.
Draw them as stacked horizontal bands of increasing height, each labelled clearly.
