Example 4 (Page 59) You get a particular shade of purple paint by mixing red, blue, and white paint in the ratio 2 : 3 : 5. If you need 50 ml of purple paint, how many ml of red, blue, and white paint will you mix together? Given ratio 2 : 3 : 5 First, we add up Total Parts Total parts = 2 + 3 + 5 = 10 Thus, we have 10 parts of purple paint Since we need 50 ml total, we find out how much is 1 part worth Value of 1 part = (๐๐๐ก๐๐ ๐ข๐๐๐ก๐ )/(๐๐๐ก๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ ) = ๐๐/๐๐ = 5 ml So, we multiply each part by 5 Thus, ml of red, blue and white paint are Red = 2 ร 5 = 10 ml Blue = 3 ร 5 = 15 ml White = 5 ร 5 = 25 ml Therefore, we need 10ml of red paint, 15ml of blue paint, and 25ml of white paint to make the purple paint
