The "Magic Formula" for Linear EquationsIn the previous question we had to solve 300 + 6x = 10x – 100 Generally we can write this as Ax + B = Cx + D We can write the solution of this directly as x = (𝑫 − 𝑩)/(𝑨 − 𝑪) Let’s do an example Solve 650m + 4000 = 500m + 5050 We can use our formula for this Comparing equation with Ax + B = Cx + D Thus, A = 650 B = 4000 C = 500 D = 5050 And, our solution is x = (𝐷 − 𝐵)/(𝐴 − 𝐶) x = (𝟓𝟎𝟓𝟎 − 𝟒𝟎𝟎𝟎)/(𝟔𝟓𝟎 − 𝟓𝟎𝟎) x = 1050/150 x = 105/15 x = 7
