Example 12 Ramesh and Suresh have 60 marbles between them. Ramesh has 30 more marbles than Suresh. How many marbles does each boy have?Let Number of marbles with Suresh = x Given that Ramesh has 30 more marbles than Suresh So, we can write Number of marbles with Ramesh = Marbles with Suresh + 30 = x + 30 Also, given that Ramesh and Suresh have 60 marbles between them Thus, we can write Marbles with Ramesh + Marbles with Suresh = 60 Putting values (x + 30) + x = 60 x + 30 + x = 60 2x + 30 = 60 Taking 30 to right side, so it becomes subtraction 2x = 60 – 30 2x = 30 Taking 2 to right side, so it becomes division x = 30/2 x = 15 Thus, Number of marbles with Suresh = x = 15 Number of marbles with Ramesh = x + 30 = 15 + 30 = 45 So, Suresh has 15 marbles, and Ramesh has 45 marbles.
