Example 6 Solve 6y + 7 = 4y + 21.Solving 6y + 7 = 4y + 21 Putting numbers on one side 6y = 4y + 21 – 7 6y = 4y + (21 – 7) 6y = 4y + 14 Putting terms with y on one side 6y – 4y = 14 2y = 14 y = 14/2 y = 7 Thus, y = 7 is the solution of the equation
