Question 1 - Page 167 Jasmine decides to make a matchstick arrangement that appears in this sequence, using exactly 99 sticks. What will be the position number of this arrangement in the sequence? We found out the expression for Number of matchsticks as Number of matchsticks = 2 × t + 1 Where t = Number of triangles Here, t is also the position number of this arrangement Given that Jasmine uses 99 matchsticks So, we can write 2t + 1 = 99 Now, we need to solve this 2t + 1 = 99 2t = 99 – 1 2t = 98 t = 98/2 t = 49 Thus, Jasmine is building the 49th pattern!
