Question 4 The following clustered-bar graph shows the number of electric vehicles registered in some states every year from 2022 to 2024.(a) The data (rounded-off to thousands) for the states of Gujarat and Delhi are given in the table below. Mark the corresponding bars on the bar graph. (It is enough if you place the top of the bars between the two appropriate vertical guidelines.) Let’s complete our graph (b) Notice how the graph is organised, what scale is used, and what patterns the data showsOrganisation: It is a Clustered Bar Graph. It groups the data by State (on the x -axis) and uses different colors for years. Scale: On the vertical line (𝑦-axis), the gap between major lines is 25,000 . So, 𝟏 unit =𝟐𝟓,𝟎𝟎𝟎 vehicles. Pattern: In almost every state, the bars get taller from Blue to Yellow. This shows that the number of electric vehicles is increasing every year. (c) How would you describe the change for various states between 2022 and 2024?For most states (like Assam, Odisha, West Bengal), there is a large increase in registrations. People are buying many more EVs in 2024 than they did in 2022. (d) Approximately how many more registrations did Assam get in 2023 compared to 2022?Look at Assam's bars. 2023 (Red): Approximately 𝟔𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 2022 (Blue): Approximately 𝟒𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 Thus, Difference is 60,000−40,000=𝟐𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 So, we can say Approximately 𝟐𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 more registrations. (e) How many times more did the registrations in West Bengal increase from 2022 to 2024? Look at West Bengal. 2022 (Blue): Looks like 10,000 2024 (Yellow): Looks like 42,000 Since we need to find how many times, we divide both numbers Now, (𝟒𝟐,𝟎𝟎𝟎)/(𝟏𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎)=𝟒.𝟐. Thus, the registrations increased about 𝟒 times. (f) Is this statement correct - ‘There were very few new registrations in Uttarakhand in 2023 and 2024, as the increase in the bar lengths is minimal’?Yes, the statement is mostly correct. When you compare Uttarakhand to states like Assam or Odisha, the Uttarakhand bars (Blue, Red, Yellow) are all roughly the same height. They are growing, but very slowly. The "steps" up are small compared to the huge jumps seen in other states.
