Statistical Question What is a Statistical Question? A statistical question is a question that you can answer by collecting data, where you expect the answers to change (vary) from person to person. If a question has only one correct answer, it is not a statistical question. If it has many different answers, it is a statistical question. NOT a Statistical Question: "How old are you?” Why? There is only one answer to this (your age). It doesn't change. YES, a Statistical Question: "How old are the students in my grade?” Why? To answer this, you have to ask everyone. Some might be 10, some 11, some 12. There is a variety of answers. More examples Question Is it Statistical? Why? "How tall is the teacher?" No Only one answer (one specific height). "How tall are all the teachers in the school?" Yes You will get a list of many different heights. "What is my favorite color?" No Only one answer (e.g., Blue). "What are the favorite colors of 6th graders?" Yes You will get many answers (Red, Blue, Green, etc.).
