Constructing an Isosceles TrapeziumWhen the non-parallel sides of a trapezium have the same lengths, the trapezium is called an isosceles trapezium Let’s do this question Construct an isosceles trapezium UVWX, with UV ∥ XW. Measure ∠U. Since UVWX is isosceles trapezium. Non-parallel sides UX & WV are equal ∴ UX = WV Let’s assume UV = 7 cm, UX = WV = 6 cm Now, let’s construct it Steps of construction Draw line UV of length 7 cm 2. Above UV, at some distance, make another line which is also horizontal Such that both lines are parallel 3. Since UX = 6 cm, we open compass 6 cm And keeping pointy end U, we draw an arc to the line above UV Where it intersects is point X 4. Since VW = 6 cm, we open compass 6 cm And keeping pointy end V, we draw an arc to the line above UV Where it intersects is point W 5. Join UX and WV ∴ UVWX is the required isosceles trapezium
