Question 3 (Page 160) How many fractions lie between 0 and 1? Think, discuss with your classmates, and write your answer. Imagine you have a piece of string stretching from point 0 to point 1. You can take scissors and snip it right in the middle. That's 1/2. Now you have two smaller pieces. Take the first piece (from 0 to 1/2) and snip that in the middle. Boom, that's 1/4. You can always take any of the leftover pieces and snip them in half again, and again, and again... forever! You never run out of string to cut, and every time you make a cut, you discover a new fraction that was hiding there all along. So, how many fractions are there between 0 and 1? There are infinitely many. Not just a lot, but a true, mind-boggling infinity of them. For any two fractions you can possibly name, no matter how close they are, you can always find another one right between them
