Question 13 (iv) Calculate and write the answer in scientific notation: (iv) Total time spent eating in a lifetime in seconds.Here, we need two things Total time spent eating per day Average lifetime Since I am healthy, and I eat slow. We assume Lifetime of 90 years Time taken 15 minutes per meal Total 3 meals a day Now, we also need everything in seconds, so lets find out Now, Time spent eating in 1 day = 15 minutes × 3 = 45 minutes Converting into seconds = 45 × 60 seconds = 2700 seconds Thus, Time spent eating in lifetime = Time spent eating in 90 years = Time spent eating in 1 year × 90 = Time spent eating in 365 days × 90 = Time spent eating in 1 day × 365 × 90 = 2700 × 365 × 90 seconds = 27 × 365 × 9 × 1000 = (27 × 9) × 365 × 1000 = 243 × 365 × 1000 = 88695 × 1000 = 8.8695 × 104 × 1000 = 8.8695 × 104 × 103 Applying am × an = am+n = 8.8695 × 104+3 = 8.8695 × 107 seconds Thus, total time spent eating in life time is 8.8695 × 107 seconds
