Question 13 (ii) Calculate and write the answer in scientific notation: (ii) There are about 100 million bee colonies in the world. Find the number of honeybees if each colony has about 50,000 bees.Million has 6 zeroes So, Number of Bee colonies = 100 Million = 100 × 106 = 102 × 106 Applying am × an = am+n = 102+6 = 108 And, Number of Honeybees in 1 colony = 50,000 Thus, Total Honeybees = Number of Bee colonies × Number of Honeybees in 1 colony = 50,000 × 108 = 5 × 104 × 108 Applying am × an = am+n = 5 × 104+8 = 5 × 1012 Thus, there are total 5 × 1012 honeybees
