Patterns in numbers π’ happen when numbers follow a certain rule or sequence.
Just like music π΅ follows a beat, numbers can follow a pattern too!
π 1. Increasing Patterns
Each number gets bigger by the same amount.
- β Add 2 each time: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10...
- β Add 5 each time: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25...
π 2. Decreasing Patterns
Each number gets smaller by the same amount.
- β Subtract 1 each time: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6...
- β Subtract 3 each time: 30, 27, 24, 21...
π 3. Skip Counting
This is a fun pattern where we jump numbers!
- β© Skip by 2s: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10...
- β© Skip by 10s: 10, 20, 30, 40...
π 4. Multiplying Patterns
Each number is multiplied by a rule.
- βοΈ Multiply by 2: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32...
- βοΈ Multiply by 3: 1, 3, 9, 27, 81...
π 5. Doubling Patterns
Each number is double the one before.
1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32... β‘οΈ This is also called a growing pattern .
π 6. Odd and Even Patterns
- π¦ Even Numbers: 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10...
- π₯ Odd Numbers: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11...
π 7. Patterns in Place Value
Look at how the digits move when we multiply by 10:
1, 10, 100, 1000, 10000... β‘οΈ One more zero each time!
π― Why are Number Patterns Important?
- β Help us predict what comes next
- β Make math faster and easier
- β Teach us how rules and logic work
Math is full of secret codes – and patterns help us crack them! π΅οΈ♀οΈπ
